About.

Your website probably isn’t broken. It’s just not doing its job.

I help teams improve the parts of their site that matter most through fractional front-end support, homepage refreshes, and focused digital builds. My work centers on clarity, performance, responsive behavior, and the kind of polish that makes a site feel current and trustworthy.

I work across Next.js, React, Tailwind CSS, and WordPress, using motion selectively to support hierarchy and flow — not as decoration, but as part of how a good interface communicates.

I’ve been building front-ends for over 15 years, including work at LEGO and Forum One. I also hold an MBA from Columbia and have studied machine learning through Stanford Online, which gives me a useful bridge between technical execution, product thinking, and business goals.

Slumbering dragon

When I’m not coding or designing, I write fiction — mainly young adult science fiction and fantasy. Check out my author's site for more about my writing. I work remotely from Virginia.

The very talented Peter Mack of Templar Studios wrote, "Nonetheless, there was a real visionary at LEGO behind the whole [LEGO Bionicle Mata Nui Online Game] project: a creative director named Russell Stoll, who really believed in our abilities as story and game developers and saw an opportunity with this project to do something no one had done before. It's not easy to get a big lumbering company to do something new, and we'll always be grateful to him for getting folks there to take the risk on us."

Places I've built some stuff:

Forum One Communications (Arlington, VA), Web Developer — crafted front-end experiences across many high-profile nonprofit and educational websites for one of the region’s leading digital firms.

LEGO Brick

The LEGO Company (New York, NY; Billund, Denmark), Creative Director & Executive Producer — helped lead online community and digital experience work for LEGO Mindstorms, LEGO Bionicle, and other major LEGO brands.

News Corporation (New York, NY), Managing Editor, iGuide Net Reviews — managed six editors at one of the early web review hubs.

Places I've learned a few things:

Columbia University (BA-Liberal Arts, BS-Biomechanics, MBA-Marketing)

DeepLearning.ai / Stanford Online — online coursework in machine learning and deep learning

RealPython.com — online courses in Python

Interaction Design Foundation — online courses in UX / UI

benmarriott.com — online courses in motion graphics

And one U.S. Patent:

Method, system and storage medium for generating virtual brick models — patent filed during my seven-year tenure at LEGO.
