After years of building elegant front-end experiences, I’m now focused on the next frontier: AI and machine learning. I’m especially interested in real-world applications of generative AI, and I specialize in prompt engineering and developing LangChain-powered tools.
My background in UX and visual design continues to shape how I build—whether it’s crafting a seamless UI or guiding users through an intelligent language model. Today, I bring a storyteller’s intuition and a developer’s precision to the challenge of making complex AI systems feel clear, accessible, and human.
When I’m not coding or designing, I write fiction, namely young adult Sci-Fi and Fantasy. Visit my author’s site at www.russellstoll.net.
Stuff I know something about:
Machine Learning: Python, prompt engineering, LangChain & RAG-enabled agents, Gradio and Streamlit interfaces, Vercel and Render distribution
Front-end Development: HTML5, CSS3, Tailwind CSS, React, Next.js, WordPress, jQuery, Javascript, Mobile First Design, UX & UI
Motion Graphics & 3D: Adobe After Effects, Blender
Design software: Adobe Illustrator & Photoshop, Figma, Sketch
The very talented Peter Mack of Templar Studios wrote, “Nonetheless, there was a real visionary at LEGO behind the whole [LEGO Bionicle Mata Nui Online Game] project: a creative director named Russell Stoll, who really believed in our abilities as story and game developers and saw an opportunity with this project to do something no one had done before. It’s not easy to get a big lumbering company to do something new, and we’ll always be grateful to him for getting folks there to take the risk on us.”
Places I’ve worked:
Russ in Motion (Alexandria, VA), AI Solutions Engineer and Front-end Developer — experienced front-end developer with a strong foundation in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, now focused on building AI-powered applications that blend intuitive design with intelligent, generative technologies. Recently, I’ve expanded my expertise into LangChain, prompt engineering, and AI/ML workflows, enabling me to create applications that go beyond static interfaces—tools that think, adapt, and engage users dynamically.
Forum One Communications (Arlington, VA), Web Developer — crafted front-end pixels on many high-profile non-profit and educational websites for Virginia’s leading web communications firm.
The LEGO Company (New York, NY; Billund, Denmark), Creative Director & Executive Producer — spearheaded online community development for LEGO Mindstorms, LEGO Bionicle, and many other LEGO brands.
News Corporation (New York, NY), Managing Editor, iGuide Net Reviews — managed six editors at one the first website review hubs.
Places I’ve studied:
Columbia University — B.A. in Liberal Arts, B.S. in Biomechanics, M.B.A. in Marketing
DeepLearning.ai/Stanford Online — online courses in Machine and Deep Learning
RealPython.com — online courses in Python
Interaction Design Foundation — online courses in UX/UI
benmarriott.com — online courses in Motion Graphics
And one U.S. Patent:
Method, system and storage medium for generating virtual brick models — Patent filed in 2003 during my seven year tenure at LEGO; granted in 2009.
